FOBG Annual General Meeting - 14 October 2022

Further Information

The FOBG Annual General Meeting

We hereby give notice of the AGM of the Friends of Bishop Gilpin to be held on Friday, 14 October 2022, at 7.00pm, in the MLES room at Bishop Gilpin school.  We anticipate that the AGM will last approximately 30 minutes.  Please see the agenda attachment below.

In order to help us plan, it would be helpful if we knew how many people were going to attend, and we would therefore be grateful if you could book a complimentary ticket via the links below.  All attendees will receive a complimentary drink.

The AGM will be followed by our Bingo night - we'd love to see you there, please book tickets on the bingo page, found here.

The FOBG plays a vital part in the school community and raising funds for Bishop Gilpin Primary School.  We would like to thank everyone who volunteered, baked, made teas, painted faces, organised, cleared up, and - most importantly - came along and supported FOBG events and activities over the last year.  Your generosity raised in the region of £32,000 which will make a huge difference to life at BG for all our children.

All parents and carers, as members of the FOBG, are invited to attend the AGM.  This is your chance to hear how the funds you have helped raise have been used for the benefit of the pupils at our school.

The AGM is also an opportunity for you to elect the FOBG Committee to represent the FOBG throughout the next two academic years. All elected Committee Members serve a 2-year term.  For the 2022/23 academic year there are the following vacancies on the Committee:

Treasurer – a crucial and busy role within the FOBG, overseeing all aspects of the Finances for the charity, including: banking, reporting and statutory requirements under the Charity Commission.  The Treasurer is a Trustee and Committee Member.

Committee Members – in addition to the Treasurer, there are three further vacancies for Committee Members.  Typically, Committee Members will be responsible for a specific area on the committee, and are actively involved in leading and running fundraising events and activities.

Nominations for those wishing to stand as any of the above should be submitted before 7pm on Friday, 30 September 2022 using this form

You may nominate yourself, and all nominations must be seconded by an FOBG member (which automatically includes all parents/carers of children at BG, along with current staff).  If you are nominating someone else, you must have their consent.  In line with the FOBG’s constitution (a copy of which can be found here), all Committee Members automatically become Trustees of the charity.  Before submitting your nomination form please read the Charity Commission publication 'The Essential Trustee - What you need to know'.

In addition to the above:

Would you be interested in being the Chair of the FOBG?  The Chair is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the FOBG, as well as having oversight on fundraising events and providing a leadership and governance role.  The Chair needs to be an elected Committee Member, and is voted in by their fellow Committee Members (a process that will happen subsequent to the AGM where relevant).

We would like to hear from anyone that would be interested in taking over the Secretary role when our current Secretary steps down at the end of this academic year.

To express an interest in either of these roles; or if you have any other questions about the AGM and/or elections, please contact Lisa (fobg.l.whyte@bishopgilpin.org).

At the AGM we will also present the accounts to the membership.

Kind regards,

The FOBG Committee

Fundraising

Every year, we aim to raise upwards of £30k, which goes towards providing facilities and equipment to advance the education of all children at the school. How this is spent each year will vary, however typically the FOBG will allocate circa £12k to the library; plus £2k to support workshops for the children and a further £2,500 for art resources.

Other funding will vary. The school will put forward funding requests, which are voted on by the committee. In the past funding has been allocated to items such as the music pod, front of school redesign, playground refurbishments and equipment.

Want to know more? Have some fundraising ideas? Come and join us at our next committee meeting!
