The FSA will be serving refreshments once again at this years Cross Country day, come and find us straight after drop off on the field by the big shed.
This year we will be doing things a little bit differently - serving cookies, doughnuts and handmade cakes given to us by the teaching staff and donating all of the money raised to the charity Lymphoma Action. This isn’t something that we would usually do, however it is very specific to the Cross Country day.
Many parents may know Mr Coe, the previous head of PE at Oak Lodge, who jointly began the BPSCCA - Bromley Primary Schools Cross Country Association. Mr Coe still runs the inter-school cross country event at Crystal Palace every year - without him the Cross Country day simply wouldn’t take place.
Very sadly, Mr Coe’s son Andy passed away aged just 35 in August this year following an arduous battle against non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a blood disease that is most aggressive in young men. Since his diagnosis in 2012, Andy endured multiple courses of treatment and saw a number of periods of remission. He became an avid cyclist, pushing himself to the limit, and set up an Instagram account (_the_h0neybadger_) to document his journey and reach out to fellow cyclists and anyone affected by the disease. With over 10,000 followers across the world and from whom he would receive hundreds of messages every day, Andy would often find himself responding to over 400 messages daily.
By February of this year Andy was sadly ill again and underwent a new trial treatment which, although things initially looked good, by the end of July it was clear the treatment hadn't worked. He passed away 8 days later.
More details of Andy’s story will be available to read tomorrow so please pop over and say hi and drop a few coins into the buckets.
If you can't make it but would like to donate, please see the link below to a Just Giving Page in Andy's memory.
