Foundation classrooms to have major redevelopment
Foundation classrooms to have major redevelopment

The PTA has ringfenced £3,500 for a redevlopment of the Foundation classrooms.

Jeavons Wood strives to be a place where everyone can experience a whole range of successes and where children are enabled to become confident individuals who are independent and creative in their thinking. The school follows the Early Excellence approach to create a highly effective continuous provision throughout the school. In order to maximise their provision, the school is redeveloping the Foundation classrooms to be an ‘enabling environment’ with clearly defined areas that are resourced and organised to ensure full engagement and independent access by the children.

Child development studies show us that children learn to use language, think symbolically, and represent their ideas using pictures and objects: they are highly active and learn through pretend play and first-hand experiences. The redevelopment of the Foundation classrooms will enable us to provide these valuable learning opportunities.

The project will include two main areas:

  • Purchasing furniture in natural, calming materials to enable appropriately defined key learning areas, such as ‘writing’, ‘construction play’, ‘role play’, ‘maths and investigation’, ‘small world play’, ‘books’, ‘art’, ‘music and performance’ etc.
  • Identifying and updating resources for each defined area for carpet, table and messy play.

The PTA is delighted to support this project and will be undertaking further fundraising activities throughout the year.

The PTA has donated £1,000 to the music department for the purchase of handchimes that can be used throughout the school.

We were delighted to be able to purchase £1,000 worth of new handchimes for the school's music department this month. The instruments can be used from Foundation all the way through to Y6. They will be used as part of class lessons focussing on pitch and chords, as well as in exploring musical styles, and in composition activities with lovely chord clusterss.

We're thrilled to hear that a new year 6 handchime group has been formed. The group will enable the children to become more proficient at working together to play more complex melodies. Teamwork skills will be developed as the children have to listen carefully to each other to know when to play their note.

Mrs Crozier, music lead, told us "We are very excited about the new addition to the music provision at Jeavons Wood! We are delighted that the PTA were able to support us to purchase a set of handchimes. We have already used them in singing assembly and formed a Y6 handchime group. We hope to have a piece ready to perform in the church at Christmas. The handchimes will be able to be used by children in reception all the way up to year six in their curriculum music lessons too. We look forward to sharing our music with you."

We can't wait to hear these gorgeous instruments!
