BG 'MILE A DAY MARATHON'

 04/06/2018 (Mon)
Further Information

As part of our fundraising for the second phase of the front of school, we are going to be doing a 'MILE A DAY MARATHON' over the first 26 days of this half term.

Children in KS2 will be encouraged to run or walk a mile a day, measured out in different parts of the school, and be sponsored for this.  Children in KS1 will complete half a mile a day.  The children will receive a medal and a certificate for completing the marathon but will also have the pride of knowing they have successfully completed a tough challenge.

As well as hopefully raising money, we are excited by the health benefits of this activity.  A number of schools nationwide carry out 'The Daily Mile', which has amassed evidence to suggest it leads to greater academic performance and concentration levels during class time.

For those who would like to sponsor children for this event, then please either use this link to our fundraising site or, alternatively, you can download a paper sponsorship form below.

Best wishes and happy running!

Mr Birch

Deputy Head

Fundraising

Every year, we aim to raise upwards of £30k, which goes towards providing facilities and equipment to advance the education of all children at the school. How this is spent each year will vary, however typically the FOBG will allocate circa £12k to the library; plus £2k to support workshops for the children and a further £2,500 for art resources.

Other funding will vary. The school will put forward funding requests, which are voted on by the committee. In the past funding has been allocated to items such as the music pod, front of school redesign, playground refurbishments and equipment.
