FOBG - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

FOBG - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Friends of Bishop Gilpin?
FOBG is our School PTA.  Every parent/carer automatically becomes a member of FOBG when their child joins the School or Nursery.  FOBG also involves the wider Bishop Gilpin community such as ex-pupils and ex-staff, the churches linked to the school, local businesses and anyone else who wants to be a friend of the school.

I am new to the School and am a bit nervous about getting involved
Don't worry!  The FOBG is a great way of meeting parents and making friends and making a real contribution to your child's school at the same time.  We are always ready to welcome any offers of help and you won't get pushed into doing anything you're not sure about.  Our success is purely down to the fact that people like you either get involved directly, attend our events, or use FOBG services such as the Second Hand Uniform sales or cake sales.

How do I get involved?
Come to one of our meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of each half term at 8pm in the Staff Room, and are listed on the Parental Calendar which is circulated via book bags.  Alternatively, you can drop a note in the FOBG box in the welcome area or contact one of the Committee.  The important thing with FOBG is that no-one expects you to be an expert on anything or to commit enormous amounts of time - anything you can do will make a difference.

How does a typical event come about and how do you make things happen?
Ideas are discussed at the half termly Committee meetings and everyone present has a chance to voice their opinion.  The Committee then votes on whether or not an idea should be taken forward.  For the School Fairs each class is allocated a stall via the Class Reps and a couple of meetings are held in the run up to the Fair to help everyone with planning.

How do I find out whats going on?
Keep an eye on this website and look out for any FOBG related ParentMail messages.  You may also want to join our Facebook group and check the school gates for any advertising posters.  Your Class Rep will also keep you updated with what's going on.

2018-2019 Fundraising Total. We are hoping to raise another £40K in this academic year. These funds will continue to go to Bishop Gilpin's refurb of all the school toilets and a new sound proof music pod.
