3. WhatsApp Groups

3. WhatsApp Groups

Class and year group WhatsApp groups have proven to be a very useful tool in communicating messages and requests from the EBFA. They have become a great way for parents and carers to ask day-to-day questions relating to school, too.

The messages that are sent and received in the Edward Betham class and year group WhatsApp groups are sent on behalf of the EBFA leadership team and committee via the class reps.

The Edward Betham Friends’ Association would greatly appreciate parents and carers noting the following guidelines for the class WhatsApp groups, which are in line with Edward Betham’s home-school agreement and Online Safety and Data Protection policies.

These groups are for school and EBFA-related topics and are used in the following ways:

  1. Comments must be related to the EBFA and general school enquiries (e.g. non-uniform days, lost property, home learning tasks).
  2. Comments must be kind and respectful to all. Personal or school-related matters must be raised with the school directly. Any posts that are disrespectful towards the school or any members of the school community (including, but not limited to, other parents/carers, children and members of staff) will be removed. The groups are a place to help, not hinder.
  3. Photographs and information related to parents’/carers’ own family must not be shared if not relevant to the EBFA.
  4. Photographs and information related to other parents’/carers’ families must not be shared without permission and if not relevant to the EBFA.
  5. Comments must not be sent before 7am or after 8pm unless absolutely necessary and/or an emergency relevant to an activity or event taking place in the immediate future.

The WhatsApp groups are great tools for parents and carers and makes the work of the class reps and EBFA committee easier to get messages and requests to the majority of the parent/carer community in a quick and easy way. They often serve as life savers for when we forget that non-uniform or book changing day is tomorrow!

The groups are great platforms to:

  1. Share fundraising ideas
  2. Promote activities and events
  3. Remind parents/carers of key dates
  4. Ask day-to-day class/school questions
  5. Request help with school and/or EBFA-related activities
  6. Share friendly parent/carer educational information that may be useful to others
  7. Share local information (traffic updates, Holy Cross Church information, events in the local community) that can positively benefit others on the group

The EBFA and school wants everyone to feel comfortable and safe using and being a part of these groups.

Please note that anyone in an Edward Betham class WhatsApp group MUST be a parent or carer

of a child currently attending the school.
