Description
Brookburn School Streets
Brookburn Primary is one of many schools across Greater Manchester aiming to improve active travel, road safety, and air quality in the area surrounding the school.
School Streets offer a temporary restriction on motorised traffic through Brookburn Road during the morning and afternoon school run to allow for a calmer, greener, and more active approach to the school gates. This initiative is operating in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester City Council, Brookburn Primary, Brookburn Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and WalkRide Greater Manchester.
The School Street is currently operating on the following days and times:
- Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:10am
- Monday and Thursday afternoons from 3:10-3:50pm
This means that vehicles approaching Brookburn Road from the direction of the Bowling Green Pub or from Claude Road will not have through access. Only vehicles needing to access households 5 Brookburn Road to 41 Brookburn Road in a south easterly direction will be granted access into the closure zone.
The School Street is a community-based initiative that relies on volunteer marshals to make it happen. The goal is to run the scheme 5 days a week, but we need more volunteer marshals to make this happen. If you can spare one hour a week to help during the morning or afternoon school run, please email activetravel@brookburnpta.com.
