School Streets offer a temporary restriction on motorised traffic through Brookburn Road during the morning and afternoon school run to allow for a calmer, greener, and more active approach to the school gates. This initiative is operating in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester City Council, Brookburn Primary, Brookburn Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and WalkRide Greater Manchester.
The School Street is currently operating on the following days and times:
This means that vehicles approaching Brookburn Road from the direction of the Bowling Green Pub or from Claude Road will not have through access. Only vehicles needing to access households 5 Brookburn Road to 41 Brookburn Road in a south easterly direction will be granted access into the closure zone.
The School Streets is a community-based initiative that relies on volunteers marshals to make it happen. The goal is to run the trial 5 days a week, but we need more volunteer marshals to make this happen. If you can spare one hour a week to help during the morning or afternoon school run, please email activetravel@brookburnpta.com.

Manchester Council has collected comments regarding Brookburn Primary's School Street trial and two university-led research projects have monitored the impact of the trial on traffic volume and resident perceptions. The University of Manchester's Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research carried out surveys and interviews with members of the local community as well as conducting traffic counts and analysing data gathered through traffic cameras. The NERC funded Listen 2 Manchester Citizen Science Research Project gathered data using seismometers and has produced a research paper outlining findings.
The council has given permission for Brookburn Primary to continue with its School Street during the evaluation phase.
