Brookburn School Streets Trial

Further Information

Brookburn School Streets Trial

Brookburn Primary is one of 7 schools in Manchester and one of fifty across the region taking part in the Transport for Greater Manchester School Streets trial. The proposed six month scheme aims to improve active travel, road safety, and reduce air pollution in the areas surrounding the school.

Click here to learn more about the trial.

School Streets offer a temporary restriction on motorised traffic through Brookburn Road during the morning and afternoon school run to allow for a calmer, greener, and more active approach to the school gates. This initiative is operating in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester City Council, Brookburn Primary, Brookburn Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and WalkRide Greater Manchester.

The trial is currently operating on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during school pick up and drop off times (8:30-9:10, 15:10-15:50). This means that vehicles approaching Brookburn Road from the direction of the Bowling Green Pub or from Claude Road will not have through access. Only vehicles needing to access households 5 Brookburn Road to 41 Brookburn Road in a south easterly direction will be granted access into the closure zone.

The School Streets trial is a community-based initiative that relies on volunteers marshals to make it happen. The goal is to run the trial 5 days a week before the end of the school year. If you can spare one hour a week to help during the morning or afternoon school run, please submit your availability by clicking here to be added to the weekly rota or sign up for individual shifts below.

Anyone interested in finding out what's involved with marshalling a School Street can click here to view a webinar offered by WalkRide Greater Manchester.
