Clean and Green at Bowes

Further Information

FoB are the PTA of Bowes Primary School, where many of the children’s class rooms open directly onto a particularly stationary part of the A406.  We have the dubious status of being amongst the top 50 polluted schools in the country.

The Mayor’s office have pledged £10,000 to the school for improving air quality and as a PTA we have around £20,000 immediately available.

Our headmistress brought the issue to public attention in the past, and the school is committed to finding solutions.

We have an enthusiastic parent body who continue to fund raise, for example:

Enfield council have helped us with green screens and all available boundaries now have an Ivy wall.

We are exploring using plants to improve air quality in class rooms.   We have chosen peace lillies as a starting point and are looking to source plants, pots and soil.   The NASA project has helped us with our thinking!

We are also considering air quality monitoring and filtration in class rooms and are actively seeking academic and industry partners who have skills in this area who want to raise their profile in providing solutions for air pollution in buildings and would like to use the publicity opportunities such a partnership might provide.   We are looking for thoughts and advice as we develop our project plans.
